Bricks? Sod? Shoes?

I can buy and pick up supplies Tues before class, including the sod, but I need to understand what it is that you are doing with this all! It is pointless to buy and bring supplies that may or may not work. That would be just shooting in the dark, and that all leads to crappy cheap looking work.

Why do we not concentrate in a solid idea and make that work the best possible?? I am not down to having a stress attack tuesday night, with no one agreeing on anything, or people just directing others on what to do. We should ALL understand what is going on the day of.

  1. PLEASE understand I don't mean to come across harsh, but.........

Not sure who "YOU" refers to in your post. I mean, "WE" have been communicating the last five days, by phone and email, trying to make sense of all of this so we aren't scrambling Tuesday night. I feel you, but we haven't heard from you.

Anyways, several of us have bought supplies such as moss, bricks, and "INSECT" jewelry. Bryant and Resha are on the hunt for more insect like jewelry tomorrow since we have just two pieces ( beetle and lady bug).

We really need more natural like materials to re-create a "forest floor" theme and the shoes are an additional accessory to jewelry to display with sod inside (see image on blog for visual).

If you can get sod that would be significant since the rest of us are either at work or don't have a car to pick-up. Audra says Sloat st. Nursery sells sod for 5bucks a piece.

If you have an awesome pair of sandles or pump you can just bring to class maybe we can use them?? Don't buy anything new unless oyu wan to. Most important is the insect like jewelry. Forget butterflys, I mean real insects. A frog would be cool.

We also can use bark, worn wood, drift wood, or any other any fantastically organic material. Remember odd numbers.

I trust you, your blossoms were rad!

  3. I'd hate for Luisa to have to pick up a 6 foot long heavy slice of sod if we're just going to cut a corner off of it to put inside a shoe. ...Or are we still thinking about about using it to drape over the table like a table cloth?? You want to display shoes and jewelry on one table? Maybe we should just stick to one or the other.
Larice- I'll call u soon because i'm confused again.

  4. I'm not sure if any one has received any of my emails except for Larice. I'm sorry...I lost the list of your phone #'s...please email them to me or post them on blog.
Larice and I have been talking on the phone through out the weekend and I've been just sending out emails to the rest...hope you're receiving them.
I think we're all a bit stressed trying to get this together...plans keep changing or we don't have complete ideas to go with. I'm sure we can find a way to work stronger together for the following presentations now that we're getting to know each other.
Luisa- I oppologize for blurting out direction to you last week. I got too caught up in the time ticking moment.

  5. Hi everyone, Sorry I was super busy yesterday so I haven't had a chance to reply to emails or phone calls until now.. if we were just going to use a small part of the sod we can use the small plants I bought so we don't waste all that extra sod..

I will look through my jewelry today and bring anything that might work.. I can also get some more natural materials for "forest floor" effect and I have a couple pairs of shoes that could work so I'll bring those too just in case.

Do you think we need the scalloped piece of brick.. or the soil I got? They are pretty heavy so I'd like to bring them only if there's a good chance we need them.. maybe I can bring just a bit of the soil..

  6. Maybe I missed it in my reading all this communication but do we have something to drape over the table to cover the legs?

  7. As far as I know we don't have a drape for the table's sides. I reallize that the insect jewelry is difficult to find so I'm going to search for wooden pieces of jewelry. I'm sure I'll find some on my break. I'll let you know as soon as I get back. It might work better than many random styles of insects...We'll see.
Alyssa- Don't think we'll need the long brick. If you're driving..you can pull up in front and I'll help unload if you have too much.

  8. Hi all-
I know this has been one hell of a scramble to make sense of our green theme this week. I really like Audras idea to incorporate wooden jewelry so if the insect jewelry is hard to find at least we will have a back up. I really don't think we need the sod and maybe a small amount of soil, for instance, 4-5 cups, may do. I collected random twigs, leafs, and itty-bitty pine cone like thingy ma bobs to add to the "forest" floor idea.
If everyone can bring one wooden accessories, insect accessories, and pumps, maybe we can make an "style-like" display or if just too busy go with one type or piece. No telling at this point.
    Audra-
I figured both the planter and fruit stand idea would be too tough to organize in a day so made decision to get everyone on board about the forest floor idea.Sorry you emptied your baskets, but we may still need them to stack things.
    Alyssa-
Can you post the height of the table and table top dimensions?? maybe you can find a mini log, I know that is pretty random. thx
    Louisa-
I don't think we need the sod, but if we are going to attempt to cover up the legs maybe more of your tree branches to create a screen?? Perhaps you like this idea and can craft a mat like screen to place in front. If it ends up being to tall or wide we can shave down in size during two hours. Take on if this is manageable in your time frame.

FYI.......Bryant did mention yesterday that we don't have to make a back drop, but maybe we should try to have something?? I am stuck so anyone with a fab idea please go for it.

  9. ps
meant to say that we would use moss inside shoes NOT sod--too messy.

  10. I have 3 place mats that are made of sticks from CB2 that I thought would be a good back drop hung from the ceiling.. I'll go on break in bit and let you know about the jewelry search soon.

  11. I have quite a few wooden pieces of jewelry.. necklaces, bracelets and earrings, I'll bring all that I have.. I also have a pair of michael kors wedges that the wedge part is wood and the rest is greenish brown leather.. i'll bring those too.. I also got some nice rocks and pebbles today at michaels.

larice- I'll look around my back yard for a mini log but I dunno if I'll have any luck.. I'll also look around in our art room at work tomorrow to see if we have anything we could use..

    the table dimensions are:
    18" by 26" 38" high

Luisa- if you still have time to supply shop tomorrow before class could you pick up something to cover the legs of the table? whatever you think would look cool.. could be as simple as some fabric but maybe get 2 kinds to create some interest.. remember last week's small table group did it with 2 different fabrics and Durand liked that

  12. i found a few log-like branches fromhome so know worries.

    Alyssa-
you seem to have a lot at home, can you maybe bring a few colorful pieces that go with our theme just in case. I am afraid we will need some pop of color with all the wood.

  13. hi what do i need to bring now for the "wooden" theme? im going to look for wooden accessories here at home then. and do i still need to buy any bug accessories? im off to go jewelry shopping in about an hour. email me back for information since i wont be able to check the blog. i will buy some pebbles/stones/river rocks too. as for shoes, i dont think i have anything that will go with the wooden theme since my shoes are pretty colorful.

  14. larice- i'll bring a bunch of stuff (including some more colorful things) from home so we can just see what works best as we put it together

  15. I asked Resha who says she is out shopping right now, but maybe someone else can get more moss. It is called supermoss with a purple label sold at michael's.

I have two bags, but this won't be enough for what we need. In the test run photo I just posted, that is about how much comes in one bag.
